Messages and channels
On this page you will learn how to talk to colleagues one to one, how to organise team conversations into channels and how to share Drive files without leaving the conversation.
Direct messages (1:1)
A direct message is a private conversation between you and one other person.
- In the sidebar, hover over the Direct messages heading and click the +.
- Type your colleague’s name or email address in the search box.
- Select the person to open the conversation.
The search only shows people from your own organisation, and displays the email address as a subtitle so you can tell apart colleagues with the same name. If you already have a conversation with that person, Foral reopens the existing one instead of creating a new one.
Group channels
Channels bring several people together around a team, a project or a topic.
- To create a channel, hover over the Channels heading and click the +; then type the channel name.
- To invite people, open the ⋯ menu in the channel header and choose Add member. Anyone you invite sees the channel straight away.
- In the Room info panel (the info icon in the header) you manage the members and their access levels (Member, Moderator, Owner), and edit the channel name and topic.
Writing and formatting messages
The composer supports bold, italic, lists, quotes and code blocks. To mention someone, type @ followed by the name. Press Enter to send and Shift+Enter for a new line. You can also reply, forward, react with emoji, start threads, edit or delete your own messages, and record voice messages.
Sharing Drive files
To share a document without resending it as an attachment, use the Attach file button in the composer and choose a file from Drive. The message shows a card with the file name and a Download button; the file is saved to the recipient’s Drive with read permission.
