Chat and calls — overview
Chat is where you talk to your colleagues in real time, organise conversations into channels and start audio and video calls, without leaving Foral. It works as a European alternative to Microsoft Teams or Google Chat, with your data hosted 100% in the European Union.
What you can do in Chat
Chat brings messages, file sharing and calls together in one place. The main capabilities are:
- Send messages with formatting, mentions (
@name), reactions, replies and threads. - Talk one to one in 1:1 direct messages (DMs) or create group channels for teams and projects.
- Share Drive files directly in a conversation, with the recipient receiving them straight into their own Drive.
- Send voice messages, photos and videos.
- Make audio and video calls, 1:1 or in a group, with screen sharing and recording.
- Create instant meeting links (
/meet) to invite people from outside your organisation, with a waiting room you control. - Organise conversations into spaces, mark favourites and mute notifications per channel.
How it is organised
On the left you have the sidebar, with the space selector at the top and three sections: Starred, Channels and Direct messages. When you select a conversation, it opens in the centre, with the message history and the composer at the bottom. In the header of each conversation you will find the notifications, call and info buttons.
In this guide
The following pages explain each area in detail:
- Messages and channels — 1:1 direct messages, creating and managing channels, searching for people and sharing Drive files.
- Calls and meetings — audio and video calls, screen sharing, recordings and instant
/meetmeeting links.
